Join artist Micah Goguen as we explore methods for layering and creating texture with combined media. In this workshop, we will explore methods of painting, collage and photo transfer as a base while adding transparent surface texture to create expressive mark making. We will be working on Ampersand surfaces and using GOLDEN texture grounds.Participants will leave with an understanding of the following techniques while putting them into practical application. Any reference images or subject matter can be used for this process.Materials will be provided to complete three works. You can use the same reference image for different variations or select three different images. There will be a variety of images to choose from if you do not bring your own.
You can email me at [email protected] for guidance on image selection and what compositions would best fit this process.
Adhering full photo transfers
Transferring simplified silhouettes
Creating a basic underpainting
Collage techniques
Knowledge and application of grounds and pastes
Incorporating stencil design
Using dry media for mark making
Process 1: Use a full black and white photo to adhere as a base. Using fluid acrylics, we will tint and glaze color followed by application of transparent texture ground. Once dry, we will embellish with pastels and other dry media.
Process 2: We will transfer silhouettes of your reference to the panel and then block in with fluid acrylic followed by adhering collage material for added interest. We will apply texture ground with palette knife and also layering with stencil to create more depth. The final layer will be additional mark making with pastels and other dry media.
Process 3: Creating a base layer of abstract design using fluid acrylic, we will then transfer a silhouette of your reference image. Stencil layers of texture ground will be added followed more a more controlled application of dry media.Guests will see samples of each process on day 1 and can make an informed decision on which application method best suits their existing artistic journey. You can try each process or immerse yourself in one during the course of the workshop. Instructor will demonstrate the steps of each process and each phase throughout the duration of the workshop.
